The house had been cleaned. Hotaru had done a pretty good job. If he were to give himself a grade, he'd have to at least give himself a B, maybe an A minus for his work. The bathroom was cleaned; it had taken him about two hours. He swept, mopped, and then the shower and the tub were cleaned, toilet, and the sink. Once he had finished with the bathroom, he moved on to the living room; it wasn't particularly dirty, but he figured he may as well do some light cleaning; so he dusted, wiped, organized, watered the plants, and vacuumed. The last room that he cleaned for the day was the kitchen; which was the most difficult task; that involved cleaning every cabinet door, the stove, organizing the fridge, rearranging the food on the inside as he usually did, and writing down a list of needed groceries that he had to buy in order to restock the kitchen pantry.
"Mom, kitchen is done." He called out to his mother, standing just outside the kitchen, once he was finished.
"You do so much, Hotaru," His mother could be heard, the usual concern in her voice, "You should go spend time with some friends. You're only young once."
"I'm fine," He replied, "I'll go get some groceries for the kitchen. Did you want me to get you anything special?"
"Try to see if they have any cream cheese. We can make a strawberry cheesecake together."
"That sounds like a good idea," He tapped his chin, "I'll be back soon. I'll get dinner started as soon as I get back."
He heard movement. Was she coming out? She rarely left her room. He saw the woman roll into view; her wheelchair made a very distinctive squeak as she came to a slow stop not far away from him. She was dressed comfortably in a "Be careful out there, Hotaru," His mother called out to him, a small smile on her face.
She had aged somewhat. She was still young, there was no doubt about it. But one could tell that she had been greatly affected; her eyes had bags under them. And where was once a confident and powerful woman was a wheelchair bound husk of her former self. Her smile was genuine, however, and he nodded as he stood by the door.
"I'll be fine. I'll be right back. The store isn't that far away."
That appeared to ease her worries some, and she nodded and quietly watched as Hotaru walked out, closing the door behind him. He locked it with his key, and then began to make his way toward their regular grocery store.

Taka had stopped in just for a little while, his father had insisted that they spend a little bit of time together on days like this. Not that he was opposed, his father had always been fun to be around and any pointers he could get for his cooking for the other students would be invaluable. He’d quickly picked up on the fact that many of the students were less than interested in some of the more basic functions of cohabitating with a group of similiarly aged individuals. They’d all be responsible in the end for maintaining their living space and while most of them could handle chores like cleaning or their own laundry-Taka was one of few who could cook. “Are you eating enough?” His father said, the dark skinned man was holding a simple notepad in one hand and was taking stock of what they had in the kitchen. He shook his head once when he noticed something a little lower than he liked and made a note.
”Of course!” Taka insisted; ”They give me free reign of the kitchen so I do my best for everyone!” Taka said boisterously and gave his father a grin.
His father didn’t immediately return the expression. “Are you considering their nutritional needs or just making what’s tasty?” He asked.
Taka frowned and tilted his head. ”Why not both?”
Mister Yasashi burst into the biggest smile and slapped his much taller son on the lower back. “Good answer!” He let out a long laugh, Taka couldn’t help himself and joined in without preamble, the two laughing like idiots while mother and daughter watched on, shaking their heads.
Less than an hour later Taka was on foot headed down the street. A nutrition textbook in one hand and a couple of baskets in the other. His father had highlighted a few sections Taka could consider while he was scouting out ingredients for his classmates. Perhaps he’d be able to figure out meals that would work for each of them! He beamed, picked up his pace and let excitement carry him away.

The grocery store that Hotaru frequented was one his mother and he had gone to on many occasions when she was more mobile - before the incident. It was small, out of the way. It wasn't a big chain name store but it was a fair sized grocery store frequented by quite a number of people in the neighborhood. A ma and pa operation, one could call it, and quite a profitable one. The grocery store was well stocked, and it always had the ingredients he was looking for. It was for that reason why he decided to forgo any other store - having walked past several stores on the way there - and went to this one shop directly.
The inside of the store was immaculate, as per the usual. The floors were swept and mopped. The shelves were stocked and organized. Furthermore, there was an air of comfort and coziness to the place. People walked in, meandered the aisles, and grabbed whatever odds and ends they needed, but they didn't rush to leave. They stuck around, talked to acquaintances, and even spoke to the store's staff.
"Oi, Kurogane," The store owner called over to him as he entered, a big grin on his face. He was a big man, nearly six foot ten inches tall. He was also a big man, he was a heavy set man but it was not all fat. Or at leas that is what Hotaru had noticed the first time he met the man. He had large thick strong biceps which he used to heft heavy crates about the store, stocking the shelves. He was bearded. And despite the constantly angry looking face, the scary demeanor, he was actually quite a teddy bear. Or at least, that is how Hotaru's mother had described the man to him as a child.
After having known him for several years, Hotaru had to agree.
"Afternoon, Mr. Harada," He spoke in a polite and respectful tone as he walked over to the m an, "I was just in to get some groceries; refill the pantry and buy a few special things. My mom wants to make a cheesecake."
"Oh-ho-ho, Hinata's making one of her famous cheesecakes, is she?" He grinned wide as he rubbed his stomach and laughed. His laugh was loud, jolly, and boisterous. He shook his head, "It's been so long since I've tried some of her cheesecake. You know, I remember that your mother....No, never mind," He shook his head as he cleared his throat, "So, I'll find you the best cheesecake ingredients money can buy, and I'll give them to you at a discount; if you promise me to bring me a slice." His smile returned, shooting the boy a wink as he said this.
"Yes, sir, I'll make sure that we bring you an extra big piece." A tiny smile crossed the young white haired boy's face and that seemed to cause another boisterous laugh to escape the older man.
"Excellent. Let's see that list of ingredients your mom gave you," He took the list gently from the boy's hand and looked it over, "Oh, her famous blueberry cheesecake? Hm or is it her triple berry cheesecake. They're all so good. Well, I'll give you some of each of my best looking berries and you both can decide."
Hotaru nodded and watched as the older man walked around the counter and began to meander the aisles, moving with the swiftness and grace of a man who has walked that route so much that he could do so blindfolded.
Within a matter of moments, the man returned with a small basket in the crook of his beefy arm. The basket was filled with the ingredients from the list, including several extra ones he had not specifically asked for.
"Don't worry about the extras, I'll give you those for free." The man grinned and then offered the boy the basket as he pulled out money and handed it to him.
"Thank you, Mr. Harada." He said politely which garnered a smile from the older man.
"I wish more young kids were as polite as you. Now, go ahead and head home. I know how your mother gets when you go out at night. Don't keep her waiting." He wagged a finger teasingly at the boy and patted his shoulder, "Take care of yourself out there, you hear?"
"Yes, sir. I'll head back home now." He nodded as he held the basket full of groceries in one hand. He wasn't carrying his bag of metal for once; instead, he had doubled the weight of the wrights around his wrists and ankles to make up for the resistance loss.
Having paid, Hotaru left the store. Outside the sky had begun to grow dark, the sun was beginning to set, and a cool breeze was blowing down the streets and in between the buildings. It was comfortably chilly and he actually `preferred it that way.
He had gotten at least two blocks away from the grocery store when he decided to cut through the park; it was a small shortcut, saved him at least two minutes walk, plus he figured if he wanted to he could take a seat at one of the benches and nibble on a strawberry.
As he entered the park, he did not notice that he had been followed. In fact, they had been following him from the moment he walked into that part of town. From the moment he arrived in the store they waited, just out of sight. And now, as he entered the park, the group of young men followed closely behind him.
The lights in the park flashed on and his shadow was cast along the ground, stretching along the floor.
He felt something. It was weird. It was like a tugging at the back of his head and then he couldn't move. He willed his muscles to move, his arms, his legs, anything, and none of it responded. He was stuck standing there, his eyes being the only part of him that could move as he peered around.
"Well, looks like we finally got you alone." One of the three young men spoke up. He was standing there, arms hanging loosely at his sides. He had a pale gaunt face, his eyes were steely grey and his hair was cut in a way that it covered half of his face. He was dressed in a Goth look, all black save for the splash of red or grey here or there. He had a spiked collar around his neck and his ears were pierced. "This is the guy? This is the guy that got those two idiots arrested? I can't believe this. Not only did this moron brothers of mine get caught shoplifting a convenience store, but they got caught because this guy interfered." He sounded annoyed, though whether he was annoyed at his brothers or him more was up for debate.
"My brothers, they don't have quirks. I take care of them. You see." He spoke up again as two of his friends walked around Hotaru, standing in front of him, and one behind him, off to the side. But he could see the second one from his peripheral vision, "And you got them arrested, sent to juvie. So, I'm going to mess you up a bit. Call it an eye for an eye. how's that sound?" He said and nodded to his friends. "Oh and don't try to run away. Not like you can anyway. My quirk allows me to keep you standing there for as long as I wish..." He grinned wickedly. He was standing atop of Hotaru's shadow, their shadows intertwining, this allowed him temporary control over Hotaru's body, or at the very least - due to a lack of training - keep him rooted in place. "Mess him up."
The first punch came from the one to his side. His fist was hard, as if it were coated in granite and it struck him with enough force that it knocked the basket of ingredients out of his hands and scattered the fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients across the ground.
"Yes, yes, mess him up good!" The leader of the group laughed, loudly, as he saw the boy in front of Hotaru deck him, a strong punch to the gut.

Taka spent the majority of his walk to the grocery store with his nose buried in his textbook. Handwritten notes kept on a small pad of paper while he tried to balance everything he was doing at the same time. The result? He looked like an idiot. A massive man with baskets hanging off of a towel on his shoulder, a textbook cradled in one arm with a pad of paper nestled along the binding with a pen in his free hand. Every few steps he made a sound, nodding to himself and writing down another couple of ingredients that he found compelling.
His leisurely speed and long gait put him just under the average persons speed while walking. This, of course, lead to the timing of his arrival. He found himself stepping into the parking lot of the store just as a small group of young men slipped into the spaces between cars to watch the entrance. He closed his book quietly and watched them for a moment. They were talking to one another about something that he couldn't quite grasp. One of them pointed toward the door and made a few gestures that implied waiting. One of them implied a beating. Taka frowned and stepped to the right, finding the store next door suddenly very interesting.
Not long after his arrival, Hotaru, his classmate, stepped out of the store with a basket under his arm.
Taka blinked, glancing toward the cars and watched the boys pull themselves out just as he crossed by, moving to pursue. Taka swallowed and glanced at the door of the grocery store then at the back of his classmate. He still didn't know the guy well, but that didn't matter. He waited a few more seconds before hustling over to the grocery store door and entering. He put the textbook, notes, and baskets on the counter. "I'm sorry sir," Taka said, and hastily explained the situation. The older man grabbed his phone and nodded, waving him out the door. Taka nodded. The old man would call for backup but that might take time.
Taka hastened his way out the door in time to see the last of the gang round a corner. He moved to follow.
The mountain of a young man followed them toward the park. What the heck was Hotaru thinking? He had to be at least somewhat aware of his surroundings, right? Taka rubbed the side of his face with exasperation, these gang members likely had quirks and had no issue using them. UA students wouldn't be able to make inappropriate use of their quirks unless in a serious situation. Taka rubbed his arms. They'd just stopped aching from overworking his own abilities. He smiled wearily and pressed on, no rest for the wicked, so they say.
That's when he heard voices. Taka listened, closing his eyes and focusing on his hearing. He pressed his massive frame against the small stand alone restroom to keep himself hidden as long as possible.
Ah. So this was revenge.
Taka gritted his teeth and swallowed a small flame of frustration. It was a cycle, a vicious one. He looked the guy over, trying to figure out how his quirk worked when the first punch landed on Hotaru. Taka cursed himself for hesitating and stepped out from behind the small structure, his hulking frame coming into full view.
"Bahahahahaha!" Taka bellow-laughed, "What the hell are you doing Hotaru? Professor will be here any minute!" Taka lied, slapping his thigh with mirth. "You want him and the others to see you with a black eye?" He said loudly, walking over and making sure to look into the eyes of at least two of the assailants. Take the hint, take the hint, take the hint. | TAG WORDS NOTES

It was really an unfair fight; there were three of them and one of him. One of them was using their quirk and he was keeping Hotaru rooted in place. He couldn't move his arms, his legs, or any part of his body due to that annoying quirk. But, whilst he could not move his limbs, he could certainly feel pain. That fist to the gut caused him to double over somewhat, coughing and hacking as the boy in front of him grinned, a cruel wide smirk. It was a toothy smile, like that of a smile or a crocodile. It was not a pleasant smile to look at. It was predatory. His eyes had a malicious glint; a glee in taking the time to cause pain to this random stranger, this guy whom he didn't know but was given orders to crush under his heel. Yes, he enjoyed being ordered to do those things, Hotaru could tell he did by looking into his eyes.
But the two young men who were taking relish in the beating they were bestowing upon him also took note of him. The one whom had been smirking down at him with cruelty in his eyes took a half step back when he peered up at him. He had a gaze to his eye; Hotaru's eyes were cold, and they were filled with an icy rage that even quelled the almost murderous intent of the boy beating down on him. In fact,he felt a small stabbing of fear in the back of his mind as Hotaru piped up, speaking to him while never breaking eye contact.
"You better hope that if you put me down, I stay down. Because the second I get up, I'm going to pay unto you ten times everything you did to me." The words were delivered concise, clear, and the boy almost winced at how they sounded.
"Stop being a coward!" The leader of the group yelled at him, "Just kick his-" He stopped, he heard something, loud boisterous laughter and then he saw the rather large student walking toward them. Taka was making his way to the group, Hotaru turned to face him as well. He was bleeding from his lip, and while he didn't have a black eye, at that moment, he surely would later. He had at least a small cut just over his brow from when the first punch had hit him in the face, the knuckle causing that small bit of damage to his flesh.
Wait, the instructors were coming? Teachers? That meant pro-heroes. The leader was nervous. But, could he really have called heroes? Could he really? His concentration broke, just long enough for Hotaru to feel control return to his limbs.
The boy standing in front of him had been distracted by Taka, so when he peered at Hotaru it was already too late; the boy's fist was already swinging, upward. It caught him right in the jaw and caused him to fall backwards to the ground with the sheer amount of force from the impact.
The other two cried out, surprised that Hotaru could move again. "Let's go, let's get out of here!" The second one, the one who had thrown the first punch grabbed his fallen friend's hand, dragged him to his feet and those two took off running, leaving behind their shadow controlling leader who looked at Hotaru then over at Taka then went to run from the park, tripping over his own two feet in the process.
Hotaru could move again. He was already picking up the fallen and scattered cheesecake ingredients, placing them in the basket as he knelt to pick them up. "Thanks." He finally spoke up, peering over at Taka.
