The world beyond the icy window toiled on in the bliss of ignorance. She placed a hand on the smooth glass, the faint glow of her eyes reflecting in the surface. It was so cold up here. She trembled once and wrapped her arms around herself, the glow in her eyes welling up a bit more. She closed her eyes and savored the momentary relief as her body warmed. It was strange, using her quirk for this purpose.
She glanced over her shoulder toward the door. Alone. Again. She stared at the bed, wide and magnificent. She stepped away from the window and touched the silky sheet, rubbing it between her fingers. How long had it been since she'd touched Jaya? When was it that she last heard Amara's voice? A tear stole its way down her cheek, stinging against the cracked surface of her skin. The light from beneath her flesh shone through for a moment before fading, the scar healing with it.
Her wives were dead. She would not hold them again. Not in this bed or any other. She closed her eyes and took a breath, steadying herself just as a knock came to the door. Her frown creased her face for a moment but she raised her voice, keeping it clear and calm even as she turned away to face the window once more.
"Princess. The Japanese Hero chosen to escort you about the city has arrived," The man said, bowing his head in deference to his lady liege.
Of course. The Japanese who had ordered the deaths of her loved ones would not tolerate her wandering about on her own. They feared what she might learn. Sensible, but foolish. She didn't care about digging up dirt on them, not anymore. She sighed and waved a hand to have him bring the hero up. Whatever the case, she needed to learn more about the city and the surrounding area. This would help-to a degree.
She wiped her face and cleansed with a wet cloth before returning to the window.
"...it'll help, for now." She murmured quietly, staring down at the ants scurrying about.
