overall appearance • standing at 5'9", mari easily stands out for a woman. her face is practically always drawn into a cold frown, however what she shows on the surface and what she's actually like is two different people. the clothes she wears does well to conceal her figure, however underneath she in fact has a full figure, as seen in her costume.

when she isn't in her school uniform she usually dresses very feminite. she loves dresses and skirts and would never be found in pants. sundresses and minidresses tend to be her go to, usually accompanied with sandals for the former or sneakers for the latter. she is also very fond of the sarongs and ponchos (which she would wear as a dress). she isn't a fan of jewelry, and usually only has trinkets her sister gave her.

overall personality • mari usually puts on a facade of cold indefference, a trait she adopted from her russian lineage. she has a natural instinctive habit of manipulating people and she hopes that maintaining the image of being mean will keep people at a distance so that she wouldn't use them. alas, even that facade, she knows, is a way to draw people in, cause people love to hate. she knows once she gets even the slightest emotion out of a person, even if it's hate, is a win. she knows how to take that hate, or any emotion for that matter, and twist it to her advantage.

beneath her tough exterior, mari is in fact, perhaps, the sweetest person would ever meet. she hates violence, she believes everyone is capable and worthy of forgiveness and loves caring for those around her. she treats everyone with respect, even those who may not deserve it. her kindness knows no bounds, just don't underestimate her.

overall history • a sixth generation heroine, mari was chosen since her birth by her mother to carry the family legacy. her mother had over three dozen children scattered across the globe from her search for a worthwhile heir. a woman who had managed to fool the public into thinking she was japan's most benevolent heroine, but who was in fact a criminal mastermind behind the scenes.

despite being born in saudi arabia (the supposed homeland of her father), growing up, mari and her sister spent much of their childhood tagging along with their mother as she made international travels. they both were young and naive and clung to the woman's every word. mari had been thirteen when she first came to realize who her mother truly was.

not soon after, she had requested to be sent to u.a, hoping that the exposure would keep her from decscending into villainy. not wanting to have anything to do with her mother, she would lie about her quirk, telling others that her quirk was augmentation.

quirk description • mari's quirk is derived from her mother's own quirk of thread manipulation. she is capable of the same ability, however to a much lesser degree. her power is regulated to a large needle (which she uses as a pen), which is made of threads, and on will, she can turn it into a sword and transform her into her costume. as long as maintains possession of the pen, she gains peak human attributes and superhuman durability.
quirk limitation • while transformed mari's physical attributes are enhanced to peak human (can lift twice her weight, run a 4 minute mile, etc).

the costume lessens damage she takes, but doesn't completely make her impervious, as such being hit by a car and getting punched in the face hurts the same. overall, she can survive being blasted through buildings, but a person hitting her on the arm with a stick can still break her arm.

the sword is about as sharp as your standard sword.
quirk weakness • mari must maintain contact with the pen/sword in order to retain its abilities. it's still a part of her however, and so it can't actually be picked up by anyone else unless her mother wishes it.

perhaps, due to a mental block, brought about by her pacifism, the sword can't actually cut people, only things.

mari can maintain her battle form for only up to three posts a thread. it's a major strain on her stamina, as once she reverts to normal her entire body goes numb for the remainder of the thread and she can't use her quirk again for 3 threads.
